Education was once about paper and pen and ink on books. It consisted of classrooms filled with students interacting and teachers directing. Technology has changed the way teachers teach and students learn. Students no longer even need to step in a classroom to complete their education. Thanks to many advances in the way people interact with one another such as socialization websites, instant messaging, virtual video and so many other technological tools it is easy to see how complete personal contact can be avoided.

Although this style of learning may not appeal to some, it is preferred by many. There are instances where the only way a person can advance their education is by using the many technologies that are available. Many people would not be able to take advantage of all that continued education has to offer them if not for the technological advances of today. For some the prospect of going to a classroom is simply not manageable and using technology to bring the classroom to them is the only way they will accomplish their educational goals.

The technology available makes it possible for the student to participate in a new education. They can use such technologies as email, instant messaging, online video conferencing and even share documents that are being worked on with others students and teachers. This ability for everyone to be in the same place while being in different places is a far cry from the days of telephone conferencing and slow dial up email connection. Thanks to these technologies students are set up for success without much trouble and simply have to choose their subject of study. With technology being so far advanced the online education options are no longer thought of as undesirable, but in fact are very common in the world of higher education.
