Let’s look at a scene of a family at 8 AM. A mother is getting her 10-year-old son ready for school. The boy takes breakfast, gets the pen and notes ready, and instead of going out of home, goes to his bedroom! He wears 3-D glasses like Johnny quest and reaches to his virtual classroom where all his friends are waiting for him. Suddenly, the teacher appears in the room and they start studying social science!
This scene may look like a fantasy but there is not much time when it will be a reality. The education industry is changing in a way it has never changed before. It is converting into an “e-world” at a very fast pace. There are digital and virtual classrooms where students actually take their lessons online today! People are even learning through video conferencing in colleges from overseas professors.
There was a time when “book” was a substitute word for education. Today we are seeing the books disappearing from the education industry. All the knowledge is getting digitalized and the world is becoming paperless. Students get their lessons in the form of soft copies of CDs. The internet has become greatest source for knowledge instead of books.
Virtual reality itself is changing all the parameters of education system in a great way. It will be realistic to get the whole world under one roof through virtual reality. The biggest obstacles which are binding education are location and availability of resources. It gives a hope to a great future where all the experts of their respective field are available under one platform to share their knowledge. The education excellence is reaching new heights with the technologies like “second life” and “sixth sense.” These technologies are connecting digital world with real world, which benefits the education community the most.
